Geography

The Maldives have 1,190 coral islands, forming an archipelago (a group of islands like a chain) of 26 major atolls, which is a ring shaped island surrounding a lagoon. It stretches 820 kilometres north to south and 120 kilometres east to west. 202 islands have people living on them, 87 are exclusive resort islands.

Location

The Maldives is on the Southwest side of Sri Lanka, on the equator.

Climate

It is generally warm and humid in the Maldives. The sun shines all year long. The average temperature is around 29 - 32 degrees Celsius (that is like 84-89 degrees Fahrenheit).
