From studies of Maldivian oral, cultural traditions and customs confirm that the first settlers were people from the southern shores of the neighbouring Indian subcontinent.

The first Maldivians did not leave any remains. Scientists think their houses were made of wood and plain things. Their culture did not even require temples and compounds.
